even though my V1 will fit above the mirror I dont wanna put it there

the roof sloped down at the back on the A3, I think if I put it that close to the roof line, the slope in the rear would interfer with the rear facing radar......... which is one of the best reasons to have it

once you go arrows, you'll never go back

Make sure you don't mount it out of view from the "rear" window. It needs line of sight to the back.

Thanks to both of you for the advice. Now, another question....how about my tinted windows???? That seems to be a point of contention. I know there has to be some degree of signal attenuation but is it to the degree that my V1 is going to be ineffective????

it depends on what brand and what type of tint you have.

forumla one has a ceramic tint (pinnacle line), for example, that interferes very little with radar detectors.

if you have a metallic tint, it will affect your detector's performance without a doubt. the degree to which it will depends on brand and line.

I've got formula one on my car right now and it does not interfere with the V1 out the back.

which formula one tint?

if you have anything but their ceramic line, it will decrease the senstivity of the radar detector. but the metal content in most of formula one's metallic tint lines is not that high so it is not drastic.

This is the newest from escort. Looks impressive, still no rear radar though. Tempting, but I will wait till I see real world reviews of this.

Well, I called and was told they installed Lumar ATR30 so I need to find out the radar quality of it. I've seen some good writeup's on it however as far as its' other characteristics.

you should go to radarbusters.com, I've talked to Roy and this man knows his stuff. I've had many radar detectors over the years and always followed his independent testing to my benefit. Using the V1 and the RX65 (which I now use) the rx65 detected k on 485 a full mile before the V1 and almost two miles before the trooper.

This is just my personal experience. POP also should never be used to write a ticket. It's far from accurate and is used to get an estimate. It doesn't even hold the display speed for more than a few seconds. I've even been stopped and asked to see the speed on the gun after being pulled over and without producing a speed it's just word for word.

Read read and read. They also use radar in the mountains here in NC.

They just bought them about two years ago. Don't get me wrong, the V1 is a great detector. I would drive through the mountains a lot and the V1 one would almost without exception never detect laser and a lot of times showed POP as K-band. Those where my biggest issues. I also wanted something for a bike as well and rx65 was the best overall buy. Just my experience and preference, a lot of it comes down to features, price and so on.

Not here in Charlotte that I've ever seen but once you get past Asheville in the mountains I've been hit quite a few times with laser.

Then I have a question about laser. When they are using they have to be pretty much stable so are they propped against their cars or what?

They don't have to be but it takes longer to get a reading if they aren't stable. It can even take slightly longer than a radar so most use a sling or tripod. The only drawback is that they can't move like using radar but they are more accurate. Two positive things for us is that you already know laser jammers aren't illegal and they have to have a clear line of sight. (ex. though they don't use laser the concord mills 85, speedway blvd overpass they will sit and get you from pretty far away as well as the on ramp heading north once you pass under, both great lines of site.) Also 485 and 29 overpass hitting traffic merging to and from 85, it's pretty far I know but my detector went off the second I got off 85 and started towards 485. Didn't realize where they were till my wife pointed it out just before we got off the exit at 29.

I'm surprised no one brought up VASCAR, or maybe I missed it.

I'm really diggin' your sig by the way.

Thanks for the sig compliment. I squished it to stretch across some more. Did I f*** it up doing that?

Anyway, yeah Vascar is pretty much unbeatable, right?

It can be harder or easier it all depends on the situation. Was it by plane, car, etc...
I was clocked with VASCAR years ago in a winter beater on the on ramp of a HWY going 99 in a 65. The car lost integral pieces of it's structure at 70 there's no way I could go that fast. The fact that he said he had to go 75 to catch up with me and the distance and speed didn't equal to any sensible math solution worked in my favor.
I've seen VASCAR quite a bit here in Charlotte, 77 south between exit 18 and clanton rd most often and a bit on 485 between 29 and 74. Many ways to approach it but it starts with a Discovery demand. It's just a giant stopwatch with a calculator controlled by an imperfect human.

It seems odd that of all the times I've been stopped for speeding I wasn't actually speeding.

Oh yeah, those vans you would see every once in a while that clock you and send you a ticket, laser.
