So what do you guys think about these? I heard a new ad on the radio yesterday talking about how great they are and I began wondering if it's true. This company was offering a 30-day trial period as well as paying the ticket if you got stopped while using their product. Now I've been through a half dozen or so radar detectors over the years and I still get stopped. Right now I'm not using anything and am doing pretty good so far but if these things do work, I'll buy one.

I don't have much experience but a V1 will do you as good as any. The key with radar detectors is to know that you can't get crazy and do 20+ over all the time. You have to have a good line of sight if you are gonna run like that for long periods. You need to allow more brake time.

That's pretty good advice actually. The one ticket I got a few years ago that really pissed me off was when I got nailed by a rear-looking radar. Of course my radar detector started chirping at exactly the same time he nailed me as I was about to pass him on his left.

I'm pretty sure radar jammers are illegal. FCC regulations forbid jamming any police radar signals. Laser jammers on the other hand are legal in almost all states. I have no idea if they use laser here but if they do a good laser jammer in combination with a good radar detector should be the best protection you can get.

radar jammers of any kinda are illegal and have a heafty fine of 20,000 dollars if you have one or build one. That is because the FCC regulates all frequencies. On the other hand, the FCC DOES NOT regulate lazers because it is light, not sound waves. Furthermore, there never has been a successful lazer jammer. Ill find and post when i have time the website that offers a 50,000 dollar reward if you make or can find one. Think about it this way, with all the lazer guided bombs of today, dont you think our military would have a "jammer" that would render them usless?

True that....I've been reading and you're absolutely right. I don't want to be a convicted felon in order to avoid a ticket no doubt; plus I'd lose my clearance and then my job!!!

So what's all the talk about POP? The latest V1 is being criticized that it gives false alarms so some people are more supportive of the older releases.

That reward is for a passive jammer that works. Passive jammers claim to be able to deflect/reflect the laser from the gun. Active jammers do work. What an active jammer does is send its own laser signal back to the laser gun overpowering it.

V1's Pop Mode is good as any. It's instant on radar. I got a ticket with my X50 and the cop was using pop, I had less than one second to slow down. Pop, sucks, it will get you most likely. The range of the V1 will give you time if he is around you trying to pop anyone else.

Do you still have the X50 or did you switch to V1? I'm buying one of the two sometime soon and I'm still sort of undecided.

I had the X50 and always wondered to myself "is V1 better??", so I bought the V1. I will never own another. Those arrows are so nice and it's the only radar with two radars built in for front and back. The range on both are decent b/c radar bounces off everything so even if it's behind you it will register but I just like not having to crane my neck looking for the "bogey".

Everyone says "it doesn't matter b/c you slow down as soon as it goes off". While this is true, I am nosey and want to know where he is hiding, behind me? in front? side?

Also, yes the V1 is more likely to give false, but that's mostly in metro areas and truthfully, you shouldn't be hauling that much a** down say a Fairview Road or some street that urban.

Cool, I was leaning toward the V1 but the Escort's size was sort of enticing. I'll probably just end up hardwiring the V1 to the sunroof anyway though. The city cops here suck at hiding anyway, they're usually sitting in plain view and the detector won't even be necessary, I just want that extra level of protection from state troopers and what not. No tickets so far and I want to keep it that way.

Oh and not to mention upgrades are normally $79 or so to get you the latest firmware. Escort does not provide this.

Ah, didn't know that about the $79/upgrade. So how often does an update come out? That sucks!

Only when new technology hits the street. I have had mine for 3 years and no upgrade thus far. Don't let that stop you. I was just pointing out that if something new comes out, you don't have to spend another $300 (like escort) to keep up.

Great to hear that. I'm sold. Now I'm wondering if it will fit above my mirror. Need to get the physical specs.
