Stock (alpine) one died. Actually, it's still doing crazyness but I label it dead.

Can anybody reccommend a replacement for an e36? Would be super nice if it still fit in that pull-down drawer in the trunk.

I would search Ebay. I am not sure but mine is on the left rear quarter panel. E36 might be different.

Mine is the Alpine one, they switched to another manufacturer for the OEM changers in '95. Older ones were notorious for taking a crap. I wonder if a newer one will fit without issues...

Mines in the compartment in the trunk on the right side, I assume it's the same. I'd search ebay too, theres usually a couple stock cd changers floating around on there.

Yah, mine is on the right, too, against the back wall.

Looks like I won't need one anymore. Spent 2 hours tearing mine apart last night to find 2 stuck CDs inside.

Now it works! :)

I was told that the Alpine Cartridge KAE-216C 2/pk will work.
You a two-magazine set for $29.95. Inside the magazine, each individual tray slides completely out, and they are clear. But otherwise they are the same as the OEM
http://www.google.co...e...n&scoring=p

The OEM BMW cartridge list $32.50 can be found at
http://www.trademoti...p;siteid=214672
and fill in the part number "82-11-1-469-406"
"MAGAZINE ALPINE " $26.00

Here's the interesting thing. I know this as I had a '97 328 e36, just totaled and replaced with a new '08 335i e92. Both had factory CD Changers installed by the dealer, and the old cartridge looks exactly like the new one, and works in the new changer.
